New services and extra evening journeys for Cornwall
Cornwall by Kernow has announced network changes for its bus services in Cornwall. The changes, which are part of a twice-yearly network review, come into force on Sunday 31 March.
The changes introduce new services and extra journeys for people in Cornwall, including the reinstatement of the through link from St Ives to St Just via Penzance on service 17, and new routes, the 29 - St Austell to Mevagissey, as well as The Cat service which will add additional capacity for Mousehole during the Summer.
The extensive network review was undertaken using passenger and driver feedback, working in partnership with local stakeholders. Timetable changes have been designed to improve punctuality on the network, helping passengers' journeys and keeping Cornwall moving.
As part of Transport for Cornwall, the network changes have been agreed in collaboration with Cornwall Council and are part of changes announced today for all bus services in Cornwall.
Cornwall by Kernow changes include:
- Following local feedback, the 17, St Ives to Penzance service will be extended to operate to St Just reinstating the through link and replacing the Tin Coaster open topper.
- A brand-new service, the 29 replaces service 24 between St Austell and Mevagissey. Larger vehicles will now operate on this service to increase capacity. During the Summer (end of May to end of September) additional evening journeys will be introduced.
- In a boost to tourism and evenings out, a number of services will run later into the evening, including on The Atlantic Coaster, The Land’s End Coaster and the new 29 service.
- The U1 will run a new route in Goonhavern, serving Oyster Bay and Monkey Tree holiday parks.
- The Atlantic Coaster will now be extended to additionally serve Hendra Holiday Park and Quintrell Downs.
- T3 is a new service that creates a new links between St Ives and Newquay.
- Following low passenger numbers, the Falmouth coaster will not run this summer season.
James Eustace, Commercial Director for Cornwall by Kernow, said: “We’re continuing to invest in improving bus services in Cornwall. The network changes have been carefully designed using passenger data, local feedback and input from our drivers to bring improved timetables and focus on areas of demand.
“We’re delighted to be adding new services like the 29 between St Austell and Mevagissey, as well as later evening journeys and new stops.
“Where there are any changes or reductions in service, we’ve worked hard to ensure we are still serving communities, with alternative routes still running to cover these areas.”
